What is an Inverted U Antenna?

Image
Space-saving HF antennas are a godsend for radio amateurs living in restricted urban settings. In this video from Jon (VU2JO), we see how a bent dipole antenna (aka Inverted U) can be used for a variety of Amateur Radio Bands. The design and construction of this antenna are simple, with performance coming close to that of a "regular" flat top dipole antenna. Here are some comments from Jon (VU2JO): Today morning, during a discussion on 40 m, when I was mentioning about space constraints for HF antenna at my location, one ham told me about the Inverted U antenna, which has a horizontal portion and part of the antenna hanging down vertically from both sides. Inverted U antenna is also called a Bent Dipole Antenna as the half-wave dipole antenna is bent on both sides to fit in the ava

HF Antennas in Apartments and Renting-Secrets to Success.

Operating an amateur radio station from an apartment or condominium can be real challenge. In this video, Billy (KN4MKB) of the "Modern Ham" website shares some valuable ideas on how erected antennas and build window passthroughs (for coaxial feed lines). If you can't see the video, please insert this title URL into your browser search box:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TPanrPTfBw. Thanks for joining us today. Aloha es 73 de Russ (KH6JRM). Here are some comments from Billy (KN4MKB): I've been rocking an EFHW out of apartment windows for 5-6 years now in 3 different locations. I'm hoping to move into a house soon so I thought it would be a good idea to share my methodology just in case it works for someone else. The antenna is almost obvious when you pay attention, but this works because people don't. Most people won't pay attention to old wire in the air, just don't make a fuss, and once it's up there, leave it alone. Keep RFI from coming in
