Here's a nice accessory for radio amateurs using short length vertical antennas. Ham Radio: Easy Mobile DX Antenna

Here's a great antenna idea from Tim (G5TM).  Just combine a MRQ 213 Telescoping Mobile Antenna with the "Slidwinder Coil" and you get a decent HF antenna for both mobile and home use. Andy's Workshop-HF Magnetic Loop Antenna

Here are some comments from Andy (VK2AAK): Mechanical details for a couple of simple home made magnetic loop antennas. One covering from around 14 MHz up to beyond 30 MHz, the other covering the 6m band. These loops were both originally built by Bruce VK2EM who kindly gifted them to me. I subsequently made some mechanical changes, added the square feed loops along with a reduction drive and a switch to add some fixed capacitance. Ham Radio-40 metre dipole in a small space

Thanks to Tim (G5TM) for suggesting another way of operating on the 40 meter Amateur Radio Band in a restricted space environment. As for myself, I use a doublet HF antenna fed into a "balanced tuner" (transmatch) to get good results on 40 meters.  Both approaches are decent compromises where space is a premium.
