Build an HF Loop Antenna for camping.

Image
On a recent camping trip, Kevin (K7SW) was able to build, test, and operate from a full-sized 80 meter loop antenna. It was a good thing Kevin had lots of space, since his original design called for a wire length of 288-ft/87.78 meters.  Also, he found plenty of trees and open space to erect his loop. The results were impressive, adding that a fairly remote location offered ample room and quiet from urban noise. The tutorial is excellent, as Kevin adds many valuable suggestions for your next camping antenna. Here are some comments from Kevin (K7SW): On this camping trip, I take the parts required to setup and test this 80 meter full wave loop antenna. Starting out with 288 feet, I trim this antenna to 280 for my location. The tree supports were a max of 25 feet at this t...

5/8 Wave Vertical Antenna for 10 Meters.

Image
Do you want to improve the performance of your 10 meter band antenna?  You can with Walt's (K4OGO) 5/8 wave 10 meter band vertical antenna.  Your gain over a 1/4 wave vertical could be as much as 3dB...well worth the effort. According to Walt, the antenna is easy-to-build and measures only 20.60 feet/6.28 meters.  Walt's instructions are clear, concise, and easy to understand.  This antenna is suitable for both home station use and "field operations." You don't need a pile of money to make effective, inexpensive HF antennas for both home and field use. Just follow the suggestions from "Ham Radio In Action" to see how a homebrew HF antenna can deliver great coverage at a modest cost. Here are some comments from the author: I made a NorCal doublet HF antenna from scrap computer cable using this plan: http://norcalqrp.org/norcaldoublet.htm I set it up in a park with my Xeigu X-5105 radio and made some contacts. ----- Thanks for joining us today.  Aloha es 73 de Russ (KH6JRM).
