Every ham shack should have a "dummy load" to test transmitter performance off the air. Although there are many dummy loads available pre-assembled and in kit form, you may elect to design, build, and test your own "phantom antenna." In this video, Randy Hall (K7AGE) shows us how to build a simple, QRP dummy load with only a few parts. Randy's project is patterned after the popular Elecraft DL-1 Dummy Load. According to Randy, this device is "a simple QRP Dummy Load that's good for up to 20 watts. It even has a test point to measure the voltage needed to calculate the power of your transmitter." Randy provides a list of materials, assembly instructions, and testing procedures needed to build and use this useful tool. ----- For the latest Amateur/Ham Radio news and information, please visit these web
