If you live on a small urban lot and want a fairly efficient multiband HF antenna covering 160 meters through 10 meters, then this video from N4LQ might be helpful. As originally designed, the inverted L measured 100-feet/30.48 meters and used a MFJ-998 antenna "tuner" to control the mismatch found on the antenna.  Later, N4LQ extended the antenna length to 200-feet/60.97 meters and got better results. The key to this antenna is to get as much vertical wire in the air as possible before adding the inverted L section at the top. Be sure to install a basic ground radial or counterpoise system to complete the project. Operating a multiband HF antenna covering 160 through 10 meters on a city lot can be quite a challenge.  In this video, Steve Ellington (N4LQ) shows us how a modified inverted L antenna, a counterpoise system, and a wide range antenna transmatch (i.e. "tuner") can simplify your task. Steve says he used 100-feet/30.48 meters of wire for the inverted L, a counterpoise system, and a MFJ-998 antenna "tuner" to get 160 meter to 10 meter coverage.  Hopefully, some of Steve's suggestions can help you get on 160 meters without too much difficulty. Multiband antennas covering 160 meters to 10 meters tend to be very large, particularly when a quarter wave vertical antenna for the 160 meter band can be as tall as 135 feet/41.15 meters.  You could save some space and still get decent multiband performance by using an inverted L antenna that could fit on your property. In this video, Steve Ellington (N4LQ)  uses a 100 foot/30.48 meters (later upgraded to 200 feet/60.97 meters) long inverted L that covers all amateur radio bands between 160 and 10 meters.  He uses a MFJ-998 antenna transmatch (i.e. "tuner") to keep SWR in check.  Steve's project may give you some good ideas on building a similar antenna for your property. Steve later extended the antenna to 200-ft/60.97 meters.  He used a workshop to house his antenna relay system, tuner (MFJ-998), test equipment, and endpoint for his extensive counterpoise wire system.  The video does an excellent job of displaying this versatile antenna and how it connects to his counterpoise system and main station in his home.
