Radio amateurs have used all kind of metal materials for HF antennas, including wire best suited for other purposes. In this video, Gaston (KT1RUN) makes a "homebrew" HF antenna out readily available fence wire, a few connectors, and a length of coaxial cable for a feed line. Gaston wanted to know if common fence wire could be used as an emergency antenna. This "improvised" antenna works very well and could be your next antenna. The antenna is portable, inexpensive, and makes use of locally available materials. You could also use speaker wire or ordinary hook-up wire. There's no need to spend a lot of money on antennas when you can make your own.
