It's a voice and data mode system especially useful for establishing phone or real-time messaging on HF between two stations, or from the single station to a group or network of stations. its primary role is emergency communications. One of the features of automatic link establishment, either with embedded ALE, PC-ALE, or MARS-ALE, is its constant scanning of bands and channels on HF.
