Full Wave Horizontal Loop Antenna

Image
I've always liked full-wave horizontal HF loop antennas.  While these antennas occupy a lot of space and need some height to work well, they deliver quiet receiving and a modest amount of gain over a conventional dipole. In this video, Ed (N7PHY) describes the loop antenna used for the 2020 Washington State QSO Party.  The results speak for themselves. Cheap Compact 160m Antenna Ideas

Image
The 160-meter Amateur Radio Band provides lots of excitement when the "Top Band" is open.  Unfortunately, the size and length of 160-meter antennas often make  this band unusable for many radio amateurs. But don't give up, yet.  In this video from Callum (M0MCX), we see several modified antenna ideas that can get you on 160-meters with a decent signal.  Among the antennas offered are inverted Ls, loaded verticals, compact dipoles, sloppers, and even loop antennas. If you can't see the video, please insert this title URL into your browser search box:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJZKYl3T-aM Here are some comments from Callum (M0MCX): I need a 160m Antenna. Let's look at Inverted L, Sloper, Loaded Vertical a Compact Dipole and the Halo (loop). Let us consider the problem, walk the area and discuss how each would work. Attic Antennas for Ham Radio

Image
If you live in a deed-restricted home or apartment, this attic antenna design from Stan Gibilisco (W1GV) could get you on the air without drawing attention of HOA enforcement committees. You will need a good ground system and a wide-range antenna transmatch (i.e. "antenna tuner") to get maximum performance from this antenna. For more antenna topics from Stan, please go here: http://www.sciencewriter.net. Build this cheap rotatable dipole-great for Field Day and portable use

Image
If you need a simple, inexpensive rotatable multiband HF antenna for portable or emergency use, then try this design from Chuck (KK6USY).  The antenna is based on a design from L.B. Cebik SK (W4RNL). If you can't see the video, please insert this title URL into your browser search box:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fLIs4jbDIU Here are some comments from Chuck (KK6USY): n this video I show how to make a Inverted U rotatable dipole antenna that is multibanded. This is an antenna design from W4RNL L.B Cebik (SK). Cebik designed this antenna for use on Field Day and other portable operations. I will make a version that uses 1/2" EMT conduit to keep the cost down. Two 10' lengths of the conduit cost me 14.50 at a box store, so not bad for a good performing antenna! Now this antenna can be made more light weight and portable using 3 sizes of Aluminum tubing and over all length can be abdout 3'. Check the ARRL antenna handbook page 21.17-18. The conduit length for each si...
