What on Earth is a counterpoise?


If you use 1/4 wavelength vertical antennas, you probably recognize the necessity of having a good ground radial or counterpoise system.  In this video, Dave Cassler (KE0OG) explains the theoretical and practical background of counterpoise systems and how they improve antenna efficiency and reduce power loss.

In this short, well-made video, "taverned" shows us how he used a mag mount antenna, a simple C clamp, and a basic ground system to convert his mountain bike into a mobile station.  The project is straight forward, simple, and gives you emergency communications while you peddle down the road.
