Michael Martens (KB9VBR) offers an excellent, easy-to-understand video on the design, construction, and use of NVIS (Near Vertical Incidence Skywave) antennas. These antennas offer effective HF range out to a distance of between 100 and 300 miles (162 to 486 km). A NVIS antenna is a good choice for local and regional EMCOMM and portable use.
